FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Where will the tutoring take place?

The location can be agreed upon by the family and the tutor. Tutoring can take place anywhere that is safe, quiet, and convenient. The ideal locale is usually the student's home, as it is more convenient for the family and the surroundings can be controlled to a degree (as opposed to a coffee shop, which may be too loud or distracting). Other good places for tutoring include the student's school or a public library.

  2. How often will a student meet with his or her tutor?

The schedule can be agreed upon by the family and the tutor. Students can meet with their tutors once a week, twice a week, three times a week, etc., whatever is most convenient for the family and befitting of both parties' schedules.

  3. Can tutoring sessions be cancelled/rescheduled?

Yes. Students/families should contact their tutor by 9 PM the night before a scheduled tutoring session in order to cancel/reschedule without any penalty. If the student/family must cancel the day of a scheduled tutoring session, it may be rescheduled, but the family may be charged for an additional 30 minutes of service. If a student cancels a session on the day of the scheduled session three or more times, the family will be charged for an additional hour each time. If a student misses a session without any notification, the session may be rescheduled, but the family will be charged for an additional hour of service. If a student misses two sessions without any notification, tutoring services will be discontinued without any refund.

  4. How does a student/family register for a class or for tutoring?

Students/families can register via the website (by clicking on the "Registration" tab and filling out the online form), or by phone or email if preferred.

  5. What are the payment policies?

For classes, payment must be made in full before the end of the first session. Nonpayment can result in a student being dropped from the class. For the Basic or Intermediate tutoring options, payment must also be made in full before the end of the first session, or a student can be dropped from the program. For the Advanced, Premium, or Ultimate tutoring packages, payment can be made in two installments, with half due before the end of the first session, and half due at the halfway point of the program.

  6. How can payments be made?

Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit/debit card. (We prefer payment via the first two options, but if it is more convenient for the family, payment by credit/debit card is fine.) Payments in cash must be made in person; payments by check must be made out to Achieve Excellence Hawaii and can be made in person or by mail; and payments by credit/debit card can be made via the website, e-mail, or phone. 7. Can a student/family cancel their program?

Yes. If a family needs to cancel a class or tutoring program, they must notify Achieve Excellence Hawaii 5 or more business days before the scheduled program's start date to receive a 100% refund of their payment. If a family cancels a program 4-2 business days before the scheduled program's start date, the family will be given a 60% refund of their payment. If a family cancels a program 1 business day before the start date or on the program's start date, the family is entitled to a 30% refund of their payment. If a family cancels after the first day of the program, no refund will be given.

  8. Does Achieve Excellence Hawaii tutor any other subjects?

At this time, we are primarily focusing on SAT prep, but we may also be available to tutor middle to high school math and science subjects such as pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, life science, earth science, physical science, and biology. However, if tutoring is sought for any other subject, please let us know and we may be able to refer you to other excellent tutors.

  9. Can classes be formed at the request of a parent, student, or school?

Yes. If one would like to form a class for a group of four or more students, he or she can do so by contacting Achieve Excellence Hawaii for discussion. However, if a self-scheduled class ends up having only 1-3 students, the parents will be charged the appropriate tutoring rates instead of the class rate.
